OCNG 6200/6300 update

As announced, development of OCNG for 6200/6300 series Opterons started this week. Making progress already -- a little spoiler below: 6380 at 230 MHz refclock.

  1. So, with the OC, how does 6(2|3)00 stack up with PPD/W/$ vs Intel?

  2. At this time it's difficult to say -- comparison tests are planned for a later time.

Generally, PPD/W gains will depend on your current configuration.

If you're currently running -psmax 1 (forced all-core turbo) -- http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1708870 or if turbo is otherwise enabled, gains should be readily visible. With OCNG we'll be, effectively, "squeezing more juice" out of all-core turbo configuration, which is known to be "voltage-gifted".

If you're currently running with turbo completely disabled, I'd expect smaller gains. Main benefit will be improved PPD "density" (more output from the same physical space).
